OBREAU Resources

The resources here are based on the OBREAU™ practices: observation, reasonableness and authenticity. They are organised into two main groups: Reflection and Issue-based Dialogue resources. There are also some General resources offered.

Please note the trademark™ symbol next to OBREAU above is not intended to restrict your legitimate use – please see the Contact and Permissions page for more.

The Reflection and Issue-based Dialogue resources are designed, with different emphases, to help groups and individuals respond more thoughtfully and constructively, especially in pressured situations. They provide practical ways of slowing down, noticing what’s actually happening, exploring different perspectives, and engaging more openly with others before deciding what to do.

Facilitator guides for the different Reflection and Issue-based Dialogue approaches are in development, and individual guides will be made available on request. (To register to receive one, please see the Contact and Permissions page.)

Please note the resources are not designed for use in a crisis. While they may add value, they are not intended as substitutes for appropriate professional support.

All resources on this page are offered under a Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial licence to encourage reflection, learning, leadership practice and more effective engagement in challenging situations.

You are warmly encouraged to use and experiment with the resources in ways consistent with the licence provisions. For more information and guidance, please refer to the Contact and Permissions page. Any feedback you can provide will be welcomed.

REFLECTION RESOURCES

The Reflection Resources provide practical processes for stepping back from immediate reactions, to contemplate what’s going on before deciding how to respond. These are the Personal Pause, for individual reflection, and the Collective Pause to help teams and groups reflect briefly on what’s happening, before moving forward.

ISSUE-BASED DIALOGUE RESOURCES

The Dialogue Resources offer lightly structured approaches for group exploration and collective sense-making on significant questions. They include Intentional Observation Dialogue, Perspective-taking Dialogue, and Focused Dialogue with OBREAU, each drawing on the practices of observation, reasonableness and authenticity in different ways to help groups think together more effectively.

GENERAL OBREAU RESOURCES

The General Resources bring together videos, podcasts, articles, and other supporting materials for people who would like to deepen their understanding of the ideas and practices presented on this site.
